Description
These Baked Apples with Feta, Honey, and Cranberries combine the natural sweetness of apples with creamy, tangy feta and a touch of honeyed warmth.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 firm apples, halved and cored
- 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
- 1/4 cup dried cranberries, chopped
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- Optional: Chopped walnuts for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Prepare Apples: Slice each apple in half and use a small spoon to scoop out the core, creating a small well in each half.
- Assemble in Baking Dish: Arrange the apple halves, cut-side up, in a baking dish. Drizzle them lightly with olive oil, then fill each apple center with a mix of crumbled feta and chopped cranberries.
- Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the feta begins to soften and melt slightly.
- Add Finishing Touches: Remove the apples from the oven. Drizzle each apple half with honey, sprinkle with fresh thyme, and season with salt and pepper.
- Garnish and Serve: For added crunch, sprinkle with chopped walnuts if desired. Serve the baked apples warm as a savory appetizer or a light dessert.
Notes
- Choose Firm Apples: Firm apples, such as Honeycrisp or Granny Smith, work best as they hold their shape during baking.
- Use Fresh Thyme: Fresh thyme adds a mild herbal flavor that complements the feta and cranberries perfectly.
- Avoid Over-Baking: Check the apples after 15 minutes. You want them tender but not mushy, so they’re easy to pick up and enjoy.
