Ingredients

Filling:

  • - 6 cups apples peeled, cored, and sliced (e.g., Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • - 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • - 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • - 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • - 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Topping:

  • - 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • - 1 cup rolled oats
  • - 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • - 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • - 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • - 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted

Instructions

  • Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish or similar-sized dish.
  • Prepare the Filling: In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are evenly coated. Spread the apple mixture evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  • Make the Topping: In another bowl, mix together the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Pour the melted butter over the mixture and stir until crumbly.
  • Assemble and Bake: Sprinkle the topping evenly over the apples.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  • Cool: Allow the crisp to cool for 10-15 minutes before serving.
  • Serve: Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream, if desired.

Notes

  • For a nuttier topping, add 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts to the crumble mixture.
  • Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for the best flavor.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or microwave before serving.
